Only use the Trimmers before each burn to trim the wick down to 5mm and never do so directly after extinguishing a candle - the wax needs to harden and the wick cool before using the trimmers.
The 2.2cm base cutting plates collect the excess blackened wick for easy removal. This also means it doesn't leave behind any debris to disturb the candle's surface or make a charcoal mess on your hands or surrounding surfaces!
